Summer where did you go?

September 12, 2010

WOW!!

I just noticed that I have not posted here all summer..so sorry everyone..or anyone who is still interested in reading my random thoughts.  This summer has been  a very interesting summer, first it started off with my boyfriend and his mom coming to NC to visit me again over Memorial Day weekend. Blogged about that back in May. Then about two weeks or so later I got to see him again unexpectingly for a day, because my family had to travel to MD for a funeral of a family member, so it was really nice to see him again so soon. We knew when he was down here in May that we would see each other in August for my birthday so the visit for the day was a nice added bonus.

With all this going on I am also working on my Independent Travel Contractor classes, really liking what I am doing and learning. Very challenging but its going to be fun to help people put trips together.

Skip to August. Only cause that is what I like to talk about..LOL nothing else actually happen that is exciting. Got to see my boyfriend again for my birthday had an awesome visit. Spend the day with him and my parents (actual birthday) went to a mall close to his home and then out to lunch. On Saturday he took me to a park that has a accessible trail and we got to walk/roll along there for a couple hours just the two of us it was so nice to just be together, then he had a very special picnic lunch packed and we headed to a park close to his home and just enjoyed the rest of the afternoon there at the park the weather was just wonderful, clear blue sky, light breeze blowing, not to hot.  He packed chicken salad sandwiches, cukes from his garden and maters from the garden, also brought along some water melon. Have to say that the cukes were some of the best I have had in a long time.

After we were done at the park we went back to his house and had supper with his Mom,brother and his son. We had fresh off the stalk corn on the cob..oh man was that good.  His mom made a special casserole that she makes called Kuta Casserole it was made with yellow squash..talk about good, its my favorite dish now. the Squash also came from his garden. We also fried up some squash and had that so we had what the called a “Garden dinner”. I could eat that all the time.

After supper we sat around and watched some TV and just visited with his mom, his brother took his son fishing for the evening. I was a nice and relaxing evening. It was really tough to leave because we are not sure when we will see one another again, might be awhile because we both are so busy with different things in our lives, he is working on getting an online business up and running and I am working on the travel stuff.

Well that is pretty much what has been going on in my life the last few months. No health issues to speak of ..thank goodness its all good in that area of my life.

I recently joined a gym and have found some exercises that I can do and weights that I can lift. For any adult with SB that reads this there is a machine out there called Nu Step. If you have some use of your legs you can use this machine because you also use your arms and its really good exercise for cardio. I have been using it for 4 days and feel awesome. I think I found something new to keep me busy..going to the gym for an hour a day. I am also going to get into the pool they have there.

Have a great week everyone and I won’t take a break blogging like I did this summer I will update more often. as long as people are still reading.

Update ,Memorial Day weekend, Boyfriends visit

June 16, 2010

A few of you have written me and wondered where I have been? I am doing well..Life has just really been busy for me. For starters my boyfriend Kevin and his Mom came down over Memorial Day weekend to visit. We had a blast just hanging out Kevin and I got to spend Memorial Day together as a couple, going to the mall walking around there just enjoying each others company, we sat down a couple of times for me to rest, he is so mindful of making sure I don’t wear myself out. We sat in the food court of the mall for awhile having something cold to drink. Despite the raining weather that day we had a great time, we also went to a book store (books a million) to walk around and browse the books, it turns out that we both like the same subjects in books so that was fun, he read some and I read some to each other. We then headed back to my house with a stop at Chic-fil-a for a “snack” we shared a 8 piece chicken nugget meal. That was a great way to end our day as he said.

On Tuesday His mom, my mom and us went to a town called Bevard NC. We went to a state park called Cesar’s Head. Was a nice drive up there, when we arrived the overlook that I was hoping would be clear was completely fogged in. I was so disappointed that he did not get to see how pretty the overlook was, but we still enjoyed our time there. Due to his Mom’s inability to walk much we were limited to what we could do, but we did not let that stop us. We also visited the Vistor Center there and picked out fridge magnets to remind us of our time together there.  We then drove back to where they were staying and dropped them off for a couple hours. I went back with supper from Subway…I just relized that I may be boring some of you to death with all the details of that weekend..sorry. We had a nice visit that evening, Kevin and I walked around the campus where they were staying and met up with some students that were there, we stood around and talked a bit. Then Kevin and I walked back to where he was staying. We sat outside and watched the sunset…how romantic..huh? Then the bugs started to bite so we had to move inside, by that time it was gettting late so I decided since they were leaving in the morning that I would head home and let him get  a good night rest for his trip back to MD.
As much as I did not want to see them go back home, we both struggled with him leaving. I do have some great news though since he was down here we are planning a trip for me to visit him up north over my birthday in August..if I was counting I think there is close to just 10 weeks til I get to see him again..LOL

Signed up

April 29, 2010

Finally yesterday morning before work I was able to sit down and sign up for my online travel agent classes. I am now just waiting to hear back from them and get started. I am so excited. I hope to one day be able to help any of you out there that might need help planning a trip or something.  I have been told that if I work at it for 2 hours a day for 5 days that I could be done in 2-3 months.  I think that is a reasonable time frame, especially since the first part of the lessons is going to be basic review for me. I am hoping that will go quicker.  But I am not going to rush through things. I am going to take my time .

How is everyone out there? I have not heard from any one lately..any one still interested in reading my blog.

I am hoping now that I have this travel stuff started I will be able to get more blogging done and be able to encourage those of you that have older children with SB to maybe look into this field. There is alot of things that are a challenge in this industry just another thing in life that we have to adapt to.

Thanks for reading and hope you all are enjoying this wonderful spring/summer like weather.

New Adventures

April 26, 2010

Well here I am blogging for the 2nd time this week.  I am starting on my new adventure this week..that adventure will be taking online classes for travel agency training. I am very excited to finally have the money saved up and to be able to do this.

I hope that one day that I will be able to help families and individuals with disabilities take a vacation of their dreams. Since I am also disabled I feel that I am able to look at places through differently then someone who is not disabled.

Also another plug for my boyfriends websites you will find a great amount of them on my website here. He just as of yesterday posted one for Patio planting. I bet some of you don’t have the yards or time to plant large gardens, did you know that you can plant tomatoes in a 5 gallon tub on your front or back porch and grow you own tomatoes? They are so good for you. Check out his new site. He recieves commission for each item that you purchase. Ok how is that for a plug for his site…LOL

Hope everyone is safe and sound from the storms we had this weekend. Lets get back to talking again and letting everyone know how your doing. ..especially me. I want to know that people are still interested in my blog. I find it difficult sometimes to write about what is it is like to live with a disability because I don’t think much about it.

My boyfriends mom is elderly and coming to the realization that she can’t do thing for herself and is really struggling with that.  I told him to use me as an example to her when she gets discouraged, to tell her that I don’t let things get me down when I can’t do it myself.  Is it hard when I can’t do something for myself? Heck yeah ! Do I let it get me down nope, that is why this new travel class adventure is going to be good for me..ok how is that for bring it back around to my topic of the day..ok better get back to reading and working before I have to leave for my office job this afternoon.

Blessings to all today

No Excuse

April 24, 2010

I am not going to make excuses for not being around. I am very healthy feeling really good. Don’t know why I am not blogging. Guess life is good and I am just out of things to blog about. My boyfriend  was asking me the other day had I blogged lately and I sadly had to tell him no and I was feeling rather guilty for not blogging. He encouraged me to try and blog this weekend. So this is for him and for all my readers that are out there that have stuck with me.

I am currently in process of going to start some online classes to open my own travel agency at home. I am excited about this and scared at the same time.

Hope everyone else is doing well.  I started the blog two days ago and I am just now getting back to it.

Working part time is really keeping me busy.  I am learning so many new things that I never thought I would be able to handle.

What has everyone been up too? Hope your kids and your families are staying healthy.

New Website

March 30, 2010

Good Morning Everyone!

Hope you all are doing ok this week and everyone is healthy. I am doing well. Had a stressful weekend but its over and today is a new day and new week.

Health is great, no complaints in that area of my life.
Wanted to make you aware of a change I made on my site. As summer approaches I imagine some of you will be thinking of going to a park for picnics..right? or to the playgrounds with the kids to swing or play on the playground equipment. Why not take a picnic lunch with you? check out my boyfriends newest website on wicker picnic baskets..there are some really cool ones there, so please check it out. Also make sure you check out his tomato plant and seed websites also. As it its time to start thinking of gardening and planting. Your kids could have fun starting plants from seed or plants in a small pot garden, very accessible to someone in a wheelchair so they would not have to get on the ground.

I am thinking of starting on myself. Well there is my plug for the day for his websites..check them out and we both thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Have a great day.

Relationships and Independence

March 14, 2010

From what the poll is telling me that I put out there the biggest topics that you all want to see me write about are relationships and independence. I am excited to see where this is going to go because relationships could go several different ways,  I could talk about what its like to have my first boyfriend at the age of 39. Or I could talk about my female friends and how they stick by me during difficult times in my life.  Also the independence thing is going to be interesting because I don’t feel that I am as independent as I should be at the age of 39, but when people say you still live at home..I am like yeah I do. I am very content living at home my parents and I get along really well they give me my space when I need it. We like being together as a family but we also like our alone times. I consider having my car my independence. They also love my boyfriend and are very happy for the two of us.  I also would like to find out if you all would like for me to go in the direction of what its like to travel as a disabled person? I am in the process of saving my money to take some online classes to be a home based travel agent. I have worked in the travel industry before moving overseas and I wanted to get back into it when we moved back here but job opportunities were just not there, so I decided to go the route of building my clientele and starting my own small business. My boyfriend as I have mentioned before is into Internet Marketing, make sure you check out his websites they are on the side of my blog. He really is excited about his work and very passionate about it.

I know I started this post about relationship and independence..and it just went into several directions sorry about that..sometimes that is how my brain works..major spaghetting..for those of you that know the book Men are like Waffles and Woman are like Spaghetti..great book.

Hope you all have a great week. Let me know how you are all doing this week.

Home and Garden Show

March 13, 2010

Today I am going with my parents to a home and garden show in Hickory NC. This is something that we found last year after moving to NC, we really enjoyed it last year. Gives great ideas how to fix up the yard.  Even may get some ideas how to make a flower/garden area accessible.

One thing that they have there also are dogs that are up for adoption. The highlight of my time there. One thing that my family has been discussing is looking into getting a companion dog for  me. Something that I never thought in a million years I would hear my mom talk about. Since she is scared to death of dogs, especially big ones.  I was watching the other night on tv Animal Planet and they had a breed that was a mix of a poodle and Lab=labadoodle.  He was really cute and the right size for a companion dog.

Ok I don’t know why I got on the dog tangent sorry. Another reason I like to go to the garden show is that its a good place to get some exercise, yes there are lots of people and people that are not used to seeing a disabled person out and about so there is lots of staring..something that bugs me to know end..ok don’t get me started on that today, anyway I like being able to get some walking in and also some rolling, since I won’t last walking all day I will end up using my wheelchair.

Ok everyone have a great weekend and get out there and do something fun and active.

Spring Like Weather

March 6, 2010

As spring and finally summer approaching I bet alot of you with school age children are starting to think about vacation time. I know I would be if I had school age children but since I don’t I want to help you think though some vacation ideas.

Something I love to do is just get out and go to a local park and walk around the walking track, no one says you have to be a fast walker around these tracks. Why not get you and your child out there since most of the tracks are blacktopped your child could easily walk or even roll around.  Plus you would get some exercise too. Plus all the fresh air. Plus I bet there are some playgrounds that the kids could play on, swing maybe? I love getting to the walking tracks in the spring when its not to hot to just stroll around.

Some of you may live near national or state parks. These are also great places to take the kids to see nature and just spend sometime outdoors. I know that we all have seen enough winter weather that we are tired of being couped up.  I know I am tired of being couped up in the house. If anyone has any specific things that they do as a family that is accessible for either a person who walks or is in chair please feel free to share with all of us.

Hope you all are enjoying this Saturday nice weather. Atleast in NC its almost 60 degrees.  I have been out and about all morning, getting the car washed then coming home and cleaning it out..hey there is another thing your child could help with, cleaning out the car..I have millions of ideas to get kids to help around the house inside and out. Just getting kids active is a great motivation to stay fit.
